AI Shader Development as a Means of Understanding AI Software Development

I am asking the ReShade community, particularly new and emerging developers, to weigh in on the place of artificial intelligence in shader development and software development more broadly. My original intention was relatively simple. Someone once described their motivation by saying, "I learned piano so I could learn to compose." They had little interest in the piano itself; it was a means to understand something larger. My circumstances are somewhat different. I have a deep and longstanding respect for ReShade, its developers, and the community surrounding it. I have admired and used ReShade for years. That genuine interest is precisely why I chose this field as an environment in which to explore AI-assisted software development. The experience has taught me a great deal, much of it extending well beyond shader development. For example, I intend to use voxel-based network representations in three-dimensional space to map relationships within information. I am also pursuing the targeted development of a micro-LLM capable of translating clear text into formal logical statements without necessarily understanding their implications or possessing the ability to solve the resulting logic. These are examples of ideas and directions that emerged from what I learned while developing for ReShade. However, I also recognize that AI-assisted development raises legitimate questions about authorship, understanding, maintainability, educational value, and the consequences of introducing AI-generated work into an established development community.I cannot responsibly continue development without allowing others the opportunity to dissect the work, challenge its assumptions, and weigh in on what should be done with it.I have a strong aversion to the unnecessary destruction of information. Nevertheless, if the repositories serve no meaningful purpose, or if their continued existence detracts from the community, I believe they should be decomposed and their useful contents preserved as lessons, patterns, observations, and other forms of reusable knowledge. This leads to perhaps the most significant lesson I have taken from the experience:
I no longer treat stored source code as the primary enduring product of development.Instead, I preserve lessons learned, design patterns, failures, relationships, decisions, and a considerable range of additional metrics that I catalog myself. Code is then
rehydrated as needed through AI-assisted synthetic code generation within a strongly maintained memory and knowledge environment.
I leave you with the Occult Box of Shaders for next generation basic hardware support that is high sampling and multiple passes.
