I dont currently use reshade but I'm trying to figure out if it's actually worth installing? I'd be using it more for photos so because of that, couldn't I just.. take screenshots and edit the photo?

Also, every time I see photos from a game that uses reshade, the shadows are always excessive. Like absolutely everything is outlined in a harsh shadow and I feel like it makes it look weird, is that just how reshade is or is it just the presets that are being used?

ReShade by itself does not do anything at all. It is completely user-defined which effects you want to activate, in which order, with what intensity etc. (all of which is saved in a preset). How or when you want to use it is also up to you, you can set up multiple presets and switch between them (e.g. one for screenshots, one for gameplay) or just toggle ReShade on/off entirety as desired (there is a hotkey that can be configured to turn effects on/off).
